The case exposed deep racial discrimination within the American justice system and helped establish important protections involving the right to effective legal representation and fair jury selection. The story of the Scottsboro Boys became an important chapter in the struggle for civil rights and continues to serve as a powerful example of the consequences of racism and inequality within the legal system.
