Description
Victoria Police has praised a largely peaceful rally in Melbourne's CBD as thousands demonstrated against the visit of Israeli president Isaac Herzog.
Earlier this week, there were violent scenes in Sydney as police clashed with protesters outside the Town Hall with 27 people arrested and reports of injuries on both sides.
Forces in both states were granted additional powers to deal with the rallies, which have been branded "draconian" by civil rights groups.
