There can be no doubt about the seriousness of this decision. However, it must be examined in the light of the seriousness of the situation that has brought it about, namely the ongoing crisis in the Catholic Church. The decision to consecrate new bishops for the Society is not an act of defiance, but done out of a genuine desire to save souls.
