Donnie Dee, President and CEO of the San Diego Rescue Mission, discusses the mission's 70-year history of helping the homeless. The organization has evolved from a soup kitchen to a rehabilitation program, addressing the root causes of homelessness. They serve 3,289 people annually, with 50 permanently housed and 294 sheltered. Challenges include organizational silos and ineffective government funding. Donnie emphasizes the importance of trust, relationship-building, and providing first-class facilities. The mission plans to expand shelters in North and East County.
