The time is now 1:01 PM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.

In the conflict with Iran and its Regional Proxies, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is alleged to have sent a letter of congratulations to the Iranian regime on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, as reported by Iran's state outlet IRNA. The outlet says Guterres extended congratulations to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, describing the day as an opportunity to reflect on the country's path, role, and contributions to the international community. He also urged global cooperation to advance peace and security and uphold human rights. UN Watch has called for the full text of the letter, asking how congratulating a regime responsible for ongoing massacres serves the cause of peace and justice. The group also referenced the alleged scheduling of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to speak before the UN Human Rights Council in two weeks; Araghchi has been implicated in crimes against humanity, and the letter reportedly invited his participation.

In the Disputed Territories (Gaza, Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem), the Jerusalem District Court on Wednesday indicted 18-year-old Yehonatan Hever from Hadera on a series of severe, racially motivated offenses stemming from what prosecutors describe as an organized revenge attack on the Palestinian village of Jaba near Jerusalem in November. The violence erupted hours after security forces evacuated the unauthorized outpost of Tzur Misgabi in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc on November 17, 2025. Hever, who has been under house arrest since January 20, is accused of participating first in efforts to physically obstruct the evacuation, and later in a coordinated operation to “take revenge” on the nearby village. The indictment paints a picture of advance planning rather than spontaneous unrest. After the outpost was cleared, some of those present were heard shouting “revenge,” alongside statements that there would be “chaos” and an “event” following the evacuation. Hever and others then traveled to the settlement of Bat Ayin, where dozens allegedly gathered in or near a synagogue.

Separately, the United Nations Development Programme began clearing a huge wartime garbage dump on Gaza City’s Fras Market that has become an environmental and health risk. Alessandro Mrakic, head of the UNDP Gaza Office, said the solid-waste mound exceeds 300,000 cubic meters in volume and reaches about 13 meters in height. The dump formed after municipal crews were blocked from reaching Gaza’s main landfill in Juhr al-Dik, near the border with Israel, when the Gaza war began in October 2023; the Juhr al-Dik area is now under full Israeli control. Over the next six months, UNDP plans to move the waste to a new temporary site in the Abu Jarad area, south of Gaza City, built to meet environmental standards. The site covers 75,000 square meters and will accommodate daily collection, with funding from the Humanitarian Fund and the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations. Some Palestinians are involved in sifting at the site.

In US Policy Concerning Israel, a lengthy Oval Office meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump is described as a deliberate political engagement conducted in a tightly controlled format. The session has already exceeded two hours, with the Israeli prime minister and the American president in the room alongside a lineup of aides and observers. The report notes the presence of other participants and observers, and describes the gathering as a strategic exchange. Coverage also notes that the meeting is continuing in a closed format, with media watching from the side in
