On Thursday, February 5, near Arizona Avenue and Riggs Road, Chandler police conducted a traffic stop in a shopping center parking lot. The passenger fled the vehicle, fired at officers, who returned fire while pursuing on foot. FOX 10 Phoenix reports the suspect was shot in the leg, bitten by a K-9, hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and will be booked into jail upon release. No officers were hurt; a gun was recovered at the scene. Chandler Police Department states the incident is under investigation by the Mesa Police Department as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team.
