According to tradition, she was condemned to death for refusing to renounce Christ, and as she was being led to execution, she promised a skeptical lawyer named Theophilus that she would send him fruits and flowers from the paradise of her Bridegroom. After her martyrdom, a heavenly child appeared to Theophilus with a basket of roses and apples—miraculously out of season—which led to his conversion and eventual martyrdom as well.
