FIRST: WHAT IRONY IS (AND ISN’T)

Irony is not:

*    Sarcasm

*    Smirking

*    Winking at the audience

Irony is:

Playing the truth of the moment while the audience knows more than you do.

The character believes fully.

The audience holds the contradiction.

That’s the magic.
