The time is now 1:02 AM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.

In the Disputed Territories (Gaza, Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem), the Rafah crossing is set to open this morning in a controlled, limited, staged manner to allow civilian movement while Israeli security oversight remains in place. Exiting from Gaza to Egypt will be possible only for Palestinians on pre-approved Israeli white lists, and the crossing will be operated by Gazan authorities with supervision from a delegation of the European Union. Israel will not have a physical presence at the crossing, but security will be maintained remotely using technological systems to prevent departures by those not approved. Entry from Egypt into Gaza will also be allowed only for those pre-approved. After crossing, entrants will be transported to an Israeli screening post for facial recognition and a full security check aimed at preventing unapproved entries or the smuggling of weapons. In the coming days a technocratic committee is expected to enter Gaza, described as a measure by Israel and a marker for opening Phase B of the Trump plan. In this initial phase, foreign journalists will not be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip. The crossing’s initial capacity is about 200 people per day, with expectations that more people will exit than enter, driven largely by patients and their companions.

In the Conflict with Iran and its Regional Proxies, overnight Israeli forces carried out strikes in the Barish area of southern Lebanon, killing a Hezbollah militant. Officials described this as the second Hezbollah operative killed after an afternoon strike on a rooftop in the south of the country. Separately, analysis published in the block notes that the Iranian regime would avoid direct confrontation unless victory could be guaranteed, a point raised to explain Tehran’s caution in any potential escalation with Israel.

In the US Policy Concerning Israel, President Donald Trump said overnight that Iran is engaging with the United States in serious talks and that he hopes for an acceptable deal that would include Tehran giving up nuclear weapons. He indicated that Washington has positioned significant assets in the region and suggested there would be further action if conditions change. The remarks were echoed by supporters who argued the administration will not be swayed by a supposed Iran “scam.” A separate line of commentary notes that a senior American envoy to Israel said Trump remains focused on a peaceful outcome if Iran halts its nuclear program and stops threatening the United States and its allies; diplomacy is described as the preferred path, with the potential for action if needed.

In Antisemitism and Anti-Jewish Hate, an editorial takes aim at Vice President JD Vance for a Holocaust Remembrance Day post that thanked “millions of lives” lost without naming Jews or Nazis. The piece argues that naming the Jewish victims and the Nazi perpetrators is essential to conveying the ideology, motive, and targets of the Holocaust and warns that omitting these terms weakens the memorial message and the broader fight against antisemitism.

In Israeli Domestic Politics, officials are outraged by a Gaza smuggling case in which more than 15 Israelis are implicated in alleged wartime illicit transfers to Gaza; a relative of the Shin Bet chief is linked to the affair but is not suspected of wrongdoing. Hours after a deadly murder in Lod, cars were set alight in Ramla, fueling fears of reprisals in a broader criminal feud. Late-night violence occurred in Lod and Tel Aviv, with a 17-year-old in Lod and a 29-year-old in Tel Aviv sustaining injuries. In Ashdod, a grenade was thrown at a building, causing property damage with no inj
