Bays, Nearshore, and Catalina - Fishing Report for LA on a Crisp Saturday

Published 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Description
Hey folks, this is Artificial Lure, your go-to guy for all things fishing around LA. It's a crisp Saturday morning, tides hittin' low at 1:16 AM with 1.96 feet, peakin' high at 7:29 AM to 6.74 feet, then droppin' to a sweet -1.75 feet low at 2:43 PM, and risin' back to 4.17 feet by 9:14 PM. Sunrise at 6:49 AM, sunset 5:23 PM—plenty of daylight to chase 'em. Weather's lookin' phenomenal, calm winds and clear skies, perfect for gettin' out there.

Fish are bitin' steady in the bays and nearshore. Native Sun out of 22nd Street Landing boated 6 legal halibut, a dozen legal bass, sculpin, and short barracuda yesterday with 15 anglers—halibut on the upswing. Marina del Rey Sportfishing crushed it: one trip with 21 folks pullin' 133 fish—80 sculpin, 33 sand bass, 17 calico bass, 2 triggerfish, 1 halibut. Another had 58 anglers land 375 total—218 sculpin, 85 sand bass, 48 rockfish, 24 calico. Tradition and others reportin' calico bass, halibut, and sand bass stacks.

For lures, flukes and torpedo sinkers with #2-2/0 hooks are killin' halibut—Native Sun swears by 'em. Candy bait or soft plastics for bass and calico. Live bait? Sardines, anchovies, or shrimp for sculpin and sand bass. Drop-shot rigs or Carolina rigs if you're shore-bound.

Hot spots: Marina del Rey for easy half-days on bass and halibut, and 22nd Street Landing for halibut action. Head to Catalina with Sport King for yellowtail, bass, bonito—$115 limited load.

Rig up and get out before the crowds—fishin' don't wait!
