Faith vs works: are we saved by what we believe, or by what we do? Pastor Wayne Humphries opens with real survey answers from university students asked "do you believe you will go to heaven?" — nearly all of which describe personal goodness rather than Christ — before showing that neither pure "being" nor pure "doing" is what the Bible actually teaches.

Wayne traces the "doing" side of the Bible through the Ten Commandments, Leviticus 25, and the cloud that led Israel through the wilderness, then the "being" side through Psalm 119's delight in God's law and Matthew 5:17-19, where Jesus says He came to fulfill the law rather than destroy it — illustrated through a memorable speeding-ticket analogy. Using the picture of a rowboat with two oars, he argues that faith and works aren't in competition; a life that only pursues one or the other just goes in circles, while both together — being and doing in harmony, as seen perfectly in Christ — actually moves a person forward.

The message closes in John 14 and 15, on abiding in Christ and bearing fruit, and in Galatians 5's fruit of the Spirit, making the case that obedience motivated by love for what Christ has already done is the only kind of doing the Bible actually calls for.
