Sean Cain and Ernie Garcia: Two Men of God Talk About Their Journey
Published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Description
The world often tells us that our past defines us. We are told that our mistakes are permanent tattoos on our identity and that some holes are simply too deep to climb out of. However, in a recent sit-down with Frank Agee and Bobbie Agee on This is Your Life, two men—Sean Cain and Ernie Garcia—shared testimonies that stand as a defiant roar against that worldly logic. Their stories remind us that the Gospel isn't just a philosophy; it is a rescue mission.
Sean Cain didn’t grow up in a "model" home. By his own admission, he spent his life running from God, selling drugs, and living in a cycle of addiction and anger. The breaking point came on a dark night when Sean sat in his living room with a shotgun, methodically planning to murder a house full of people who had robbed him. In that moment of cold calculation, something unexplainable stopped him. "Suddenly something came over me," Sean recalled. "I just couldn't do it."
That divine hesitation led Sean to a muddy field in the rain, where he surrendered to a God he didn't yet know. Later, while sitting in a church pew—still so filled with his old nature that he wanted to pick a fight with the drummer—Sean asked God for one thing: "Show me what love is." The response was a supernatural vision of light and the presence of Jesus that eradicated twenty-four years of depression in three seconds. Today, Sean travels the world in evangelism, from the Navajo reservations to the Congo, proving that "it gets to be Jesus" who carries our burdens.
The theme of radical transformation continued with Ernie Garcia, a man who describes himself as an "enigma" pastoring a church of "misfits." As the leader of the Tallahassee Biker Church, Ernie sees the power of God manifested in the most unlikely places. His congregation features everyone from Hells Angels to lawyers, sitting side-by-side as brothers in Christ.
Ernie’s faith was forged in the fire of personal tragedy. After losing his wife of twenty-five years to cancer, he leaned into her final words: "Don't give up. Don't quit." Now, he leads a ministry that provides nearly 100,000 meals a year to the community and witnesses miraculous healings that baffle medical professionals. His secret? "Don’t pray your problems, prophesy your solutions," Ernie says. He lives by the conviction that if the God of the universe has cast our sins into the sea of forgetfulness, we have no right to fish them back out.
Both Sean and Ernie serve as a living testament to the fact that the Gospel is not outdated. Whether it is stopping a violent crime or healing a broken heart, the message remains the same: God is love, and His table is long enough for everyone—especially the misfits.
