Hey folks, this is Artificial Lure, your go-to guy for SoCal fishing, comin' at ya from the LA coast on this fine January 30th mornin'. Weather's been gorgeous—flat calm seas, hardly a breath of wind, warm clean water pushin' in at around 67 degrees, perfect for gettin' out there.
Tides today per Tide-Forecast.com: low at 12:24am hittin' 2.4ft, high at 6:42am crestin' 6.6ft, droppin' to a fishy -1.5ft low around 2pm, then risin' again. Sunrise at 6:58am, sunset 5:03pm—plenty of daylight to chase 'em.
Fish are fired up! 976-TUNA reports Pursuit out of 22nd Street Landing nabbed calico bass, bonito, and a big sheephead yesterday. Marina del Rey Sportfishing had 103 anglers pullin' 530 fish: 218 sculpin, 155 whitefish, 100 mackerel, rockfish, calicos, sand bass, sheephead. Sport King from LA Waterfront scored yellowtail, 53 calico bass (120 released), sheepshead, barracuda, bonito on surface irons. Monte Carlo at 22nd Street tallied near 60 keeper calicos plus whitefish, sheephead, rockfish on squid/shrimp dropper loops. Victory in Long Beach hit limits of sculpin, 49 calicos, 103 blue perch, mackerel, whitefish, rockfish. Enterprise at Pierpoint got halibut, barracuda, calicos, sand bass, sculpin.
Action's hot on top—90% bass near surface. Best lures: small sliders, small plastics, A-rigs. Flyline bait with 15-20lb test, size 2 hooks. Bottom: dropper loops with squid, shrimp pieces.
Hit these hot spots: 22nd Street Landing for calicos and sheepies, or Marina del Rey for sculpin and mixed bags.
