Transparency Talk: “If We Release These Records, Something Terrible Is Going To Happen”

Published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Description
Wisconsin’s open records laws state that government agencies must release public records upon request. But some agencies still refuse to hand over certain records information, no matter what the law says. On this week’s edition of “Transparency Talk”, hosts Bill Lueders and Tom Kamenick discuss two such cases. One involves the state’s DOJ, who is refusing to release state officer records for dubious reasons. The other is in Vilas County, where the local District Attorney has issued an ultimatum to the Town of Presque Isle for withholding records against the advice of its own attorneys. But before we turn it over to Tom and Bill, our standard reminder that this conversation is not intended to be specific legal advice but rather a discussion of general legal issues. If you have a particular legal issue, please consult an attorney.
