Homeless Charity Claims New Rental Legislation Could Lead To Evictions In Clare

Published 1 month ago
Description
A homeless charity which operates a small family hub in Clare fears new legislation could incentivise landlords to impose no-fault evictions on tenants. From March 1st, landlords will be prevented from increasing rents by more than 2% annually or the rate of inflation if this is lower than 2%. Rental agreements will also be standardised at six years but smaller landlords will be allowed to end a tenancy if they need to give the property to a family member or if they find themselves in financial hardship. Head of Advocacy and Communications at Novas, which operates a facility in Ennis, Una Burns, says some landlords may look for ways to evict tenants in order to reset rents.
