Back to EpisodesMariners Acquire Catcher Jhonny Pereda, Designate Kowar
Description
The Seattle Mariners have bolstered their catching depth by acquiring Jhonny Pereda from the Minnesota Twins for cash. Pereda, a 29-year-old, will vie for the backup role behind starter Cal Raleigh. To make room on the roster, the team designated reliever Jackson Kowar for assignment. Pereda has limited major league experience but has shown solid contact skills in Triple-A. The Mariners are also bolstering their catcher options this offseason, having signed Andrew Knizner. Kowar, who was part of the trade that sent Jarred Kelenic, Marco Gonzales, and Evan White to Atlanta, had a 2-0 record with a 4.24 ERA in 15 relief appearances this season. Peredas minor league option makes him a flexible addition to the roster. Checkout Solipillow.com
