Published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Description
Families are being torn apart. Pregnant and nursing mothers are being held in inhumane detention centers. Her Turn talks with Zain Lakhani from the Women’s Refugee Commission. Her group is on the ground in Central America and is monitoring the effects of Trump’s deportation campaign. She says there’s an emerging family separation tragedy being caused by Trump’s coercive anti immigration push, and we need to pay attention. The Women’s Refugee Commission has been around for over 30 years and works to protect and uphold the rights of migrant and displaced women and girls and works to make the system more gender responsive both in the US and globally. The group is going to great lengths to document what Zain Lakhani says is an emergency.
If you know about any pregnant, postpartum or lactating women in immigration custody, you can access the Women’s Refugee Commission’s tracker or find out more at the Women’s Refugee Commission’s website.
