Af: Die son skroei genadeloos, en die aarde lyk soos 'n groot, gebreekte laken onder hulle voete.
En: The sun scorched mercilessly, and the earth looked like a vast, cracked sheet beneath their feet.
Af: Riaan het die stof van sy gesig gevee en na die eindelose horison gestaar.
En: Riaan wiped the dust from his face and stared at the endless horizon.
Af: Sy hart was swaar en sy gedagtes onrustig, vol skuld, maar hy moes sterk bly.
