As-Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. We seek His guidance, mercy, and forgiveness. We bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final messenger. Today, I want to discuss an important topic: "Training Your Nafs for Shaban." As we approach the blessed month of Shaban, it is essential to prepare ourselves spiritually and mentally to maximize the benefits of this sacred time. Understanding the Nafs:The term "nafs" refers to the self or soul, and it plays a crucial role in our spiritual journey. In Islam, the nafs can be categorized into three types: - Nafs al-Ammarah (The Commanding Self): This is the base self that inclines towards evil and desires. It often leads us to sin and distracts us from our duties to Allah. - Nafs al-Lawwama (The Self-Reproaching Self): This self is aware of its shortcomings and feels remorse for its actions. It strives for improvement and seeks forgiveness from Allah. - Nafs al-Mutma'inna (The Tranquil Self): This is the highest state of the nafs, characterized by peace and contentment in the remembrance of Allah. It is the self that is fully submitted to Allah's will.
