Juliana Magalhães Cross-Examined in Banfield Trial — Netflix Deal & Jail Letters Revealed
Description
The defense went after star witness Juliana Peres Magalhães on Day 2 of the Brendan Banfield murder trial, reading jail letters in which she promised Banfield she would never cooperate and told his mother she would "take the blame for both of us."
Magalhães acknowledged she's been negotiating with Netflix and other producers about her story, and that media companies are now funding her jail commissary. She testified she flipped because of "guilt and shame" — but the defense argued she only cooperated after Banfield was arrested, she was hospitalized, and his family stopped paying her legal bills.
When the defense said she was "holding the truth" alone, Magalhães fired back: "Well, Brendan does."
Banfield has pleaded not guilty to four counts of aggravated murder. He faces life without parole if convicted. The trial is expected to last four weeks.
