En: “Liesl, it looks like you're not handling the heat well,” he says with compassion. “How about we make a plan?”
Af: Liesl skud haar kop, ietwat koppig. “Ek is reg, Johan. Dankie. Ek wil nie ‘n las wees nie.”
En: Liesl shakes her head, somewhat stubbornly. “I'm fine, Johan. Thank you. I don't want to be a burden.”

En: Johan is patient. He knows the pride of people and knows that sometimes people just need a little encouragement.
En: “We all need each other,” he says softly. “I can bring out my garden hose, and we can water the place a bit. It will be cool and refreshing.”
The sun feels like a brick on her back.
“Goed, miskien net vandag. Dit sal lekker wees.”
En: She looks at Johan, considering his offer. “Okay, maybe just for today. That would be nice.”
