Jasper, Captain of the Guard, discovers chaos in the Merchant Tower's kitchen—cold duck, vinegar wine, and incompetent staff running wild while leadership hides behind closed doors. In the disorder, he sees something others miss: food bypasses every defense. With a drawn sword and cold authority, he seizes control of the kitchens and all supplies entering the tower. But Jasper's sudden interest in controlling what the merchants eat and drink suggests far more sinister plans than improving the menu.
