A shooting in Minneapolis, a shooting in Portland, and over 1,000 protests planned across the United States. But very little context or rational analysis. Dozens to hundreds of people are shot and killed or injured in the two previous cities alone every year, and yet those deaths usually go unnoticed. Every side tries to spin the story to their preference while other stories, such as mass protests in Iran conveniently following calls for regime change, also go unnoticed. The optics and framing give people on both sides purpose with no requirement to think or act responsibly. It’s just one battle after another.
