If true, the pattern that protected Nick Reiner for seventeen years has finally broken. Rob and Michele spent seventy thousand dollars a month on treatment, gave Nick a ten-thousand-dollar monthly allowance, let him live rent-free in their guesthouse. Sources said estate money was funding his elite defense even after their deaths. That appears to be over. Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene now represents Nick. She was informed last night. She had thirty seconds to introduce herself.
But this week we also examined what everyone saw coming and couldn't stop. A neighbor said Nick had been violent before. An LAPD insider confirmed multiple calls for service to the Reiner home. The night before the murders, Nick was reportedly so erratic at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party that guests were unnerved. Rob allegedly told friends: "I'm petrified of Nick. I think my own son can hurt me." Twelve hours later, he and Michele were stabbed to death.
