Description
We open Exodus 23 to confront bribery, remember the stranger, and relearn rest and gratitude. We draw out a hard but freeing lesson: obey all God’s words, even the ones we cannot fully explain, as we follow the Angel of the Lord and preach truth without violence.
• bribery blinds judgment and warps words
• memory of suffering shaping mercy to strangers
• Sabbath year and weekly rest for people and animals
• gleaning with dignity, not entitlement
• feasts of firstfruits and ingathering as gratitude
• speak of the one true God, avoid false gods
• the curious ban on seething a kid stressing full obedience
• the Angel of the Lord likely a pre-incarnate Christ
• Israel’s call to topple idols vs the church’s spiritual mission
• preach the gospel to pull down strongholds, not statues
