This initiative comes after high-profile scandals like the Feeding Our Future case, where $250 million meant for feeding children during the pandemic was allegedly embezzled for luxury purchases and overseas transfers. The state is also under investigation for its Housing Stabilization Services and an autism support program for children. Over 90 defendants, including 85 individuals of Somali descent, have been charged, leading to 64 convictions. The Trump administration has suspended federal child care payments to Minnesota due to fraud at Somali-run providers and inadequate state oversight. Attorney General Pam Bondi warns that stealing from children and the vulnerable will not go unnoticed.
