Sl: Matej je stal pred oknom svojega stanovanja in opazoval rahlo sneženje, ki je tiho pokrivala Piran.
En: Matej stood in front of the window of his apartment, observing the light snowfall silently covering Piran.
Sl: Bilo je december, božični čas, in mesto se je bleščalo v svetlobi prazničnih lučk.
En: It was December, Christmas time, and the town was sparkling in the glow of festive lights.
Sl: Nenadoma je na vhodnih vratih zaslišal trkanje.
En: Suddenly, he heard knocking on the front door.
Sl: Ni pričakoval obiskovalcev.
En: He wasn't expecting visitors.
Sl: Ko je odprl vrata, je zagledal majhen paket.
En: When he opened the door, he saw a small package.
Sl: Ni bilo naslovnika, niti pošiljatelja.
En: There was no addressee, nor a sender.
Sl: Matej je vzel paket v roke in ga previdno odprl.
En: Matej took the package in his hands and carefully opened it.
Sl: V njem je bila majhna rolica pergamenta.
En: Inside was a small scroll of parchment.
Sl: Na pergamentu je bil napisan skrivnostni verz: "Na trgu, kjer veter poje, skrivnost te čaka od daleč.
En: On the parchment was a mysterious verse: "In the square, where the wind sings, a secret awaits you from afar."
Sl: "Zmedeno je buljil v pergament, nato pa se odločil, da pokliče svojo dolgoletno prijateljico Tadejo.
En: Confused, he stared at the parchment, then decided to call his long-time friend Tadeja.
Sl: Tadeja je bila vedno njegova zaupnica in mu je znala svetovati v zapletenih situacijah.
En: Tadeja was always his confidante and knew how to advise him in complicated situations.
Sl: "Tadeja, se lahko srečava?
En: "Tadeja, can we meet?
Sl: Potrebujem tvojo pomoč," je rekel skozi telefon.
En: I need your help," he said over the phone.
Sl: Kmalu zatem sta se srečala v kavarni ob obali, kjer je Matej razložil nenavadno situacijo.
En: Soon after, they met in a café by the shore, where Matej explained the unusual situation.
Sl: "Matej, mislim, da bi morali slediti tem navodilom," je rekla Tadeja, ki je vedno znala izravnati Matejevo radovednost z zdravo pametjo.
En: "Matej, I think we should follow these instructions," said Tadeja, who always managed to balance Matej's curiosity with common sense.
Sl: "Ampak previdno.
En: "But carefully."
Sl: "Njuno iskanje ju je vodilo po ozkih, kamnitih ulicah Pirana.
En: Their search led them through the narrow, cobblestone streets of Piran.
Sl: Sledila sta nizom ugank, ki so vodile od cerkvenega stolpa do stare luke, skozi severna obzidja, vse do Tartinijevega trga.
En: They followed a series of puzzles, leading from the church tower to the old port, through the northern walls, all the way to Tartini Square.
Sl: Na trgu sta našla še eno uganko, ki ju je usmerila do skrivnega vhoda v podzemno sobo pod mestnim trgom.
En: At the square, they found another puzzle that directed them to a secret entrance to an underground room beneath the town square.
Sl: Tu je bil vrhunec njune pustolovščine.
En: Here was the climax of their adventure.
Sl: V tleh skrivne sobe je bil zapuščen kovinski sef.
En: In the floor of the secret room was an abandoned metal safe.
Sl: Ko sta ga odprla, sta znotraj našla pismo.
En: When they opened it, they found a letter inside.
Sl: Matej je odprl pismo, in ob branju so mu zasijale oči.
