Nehemiah 12-13: Remember Me, My God

Season 16 Episode 10 Published 7 months, 3 weeks ago
Description

What happens when everything you've built starts coming undone?

In Nehemiah 12-13, we reach the dramatic conclusion: a massive praise parade atop Jerusalem's walls. But when Nehemiah returns to Persia, the people quickly fall back into old habits: defiling the Temple, ignoring the Sabbath, and compromising their worship.

In this episode, we unpack the frustrating cycle of hope and human failure and explore how Jesus steps into our brokenness to set us free.

In our Nehemiah 12–13 Bible study, we cover:

  • [2:06] A Praise Parade: How Nehemiah and Ezra lead a marching band atop Jerusalem's walls to celebrate what God has done.
  • [14:40] The Pattern of Failure: Why repeated human failure reveals our deep need for Jesus over self-reliance.
  • [20:56] A Parent on the Warpath: Nehemiah’s reaction when he catches the priest giving his worst enemy a private suite inside the Temple.
  • [29:59] Protecting Faith & Family: How compromised worship and bad influences quickly erode essential spiritual habits.
  • [36:08] Nehemiah's Final Prayer: Why Nehemiah is a powerful model for how to seek God’s approval above everyone else.

Group Discussion Questions for Nehemiah 12-13

  1. [21:11] The people slip into old habits the moment Nehemiah leaves. When life gets busy or chaotic, what's the first spiritual habit (like prayer, quiet time, or rest) that usually slips away from you, and how do you catch yourself?
  2. [26:41] Nehemiah calls Eliashib's decision "the evil thing." When you spot evil in the world, do you ever hesitate to call it out for what it is? Why?
  3. [36:27] Nehemiah prays, "Remember me with favor, my God." He cares more about pleasing God than pleasing the people around him. How hard is it for you to stay focused on God’s approval over everyone else's? What helps you stay focused on God?
