Angels' Settlement Talks After Skaggs' Death Trial

Angels' Settlement Talks After Skaggs' Death Trial

Lawyers for the Los Angeles Angels are reportedly considering a settlement after a trial where the team faced allegations of involvement in pitcher Tyler Skaggs 2019 fatal drug overdose. Skaggs died after taking a fentanyl-laced pill provided by Eric Kay, who was sentenced to twenty-two years in prison. Skaggs family sued the Angels, claiming the team knew or should have known about Kays drug distribution. The jury, which had been deliberating since earlier in the week, sent a note to the judge on Wednesday, questioning their role in determining punitive damages. The judge clarified that if punitive damages were warranted, the amount would be determined at a later stage.
