Rube Foster suffered a mental breakdown in 1926 and was institutionalized at the Illinois State Hospital in Kankakee. He died on December 9, 1930, at the age of 51. Despite his tragic end, his vision and leadership laid the foundation for the Negro Leagues and the eventual integration of Major League Baseball.
