Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 50 Years

Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 50 Years

Akeem Evans, a Raleigh man, has been sentenced to fifty years in federal prison for leading a drug trafficking operation, moving cocaine, fentanyl, and other narcotics in the Triangle area. He was convicted in June on charges including conspiracy and intent to distribute illegal drugs. Evans ran his organization from Raleigh residences, using stash houses and encrypted communications. He even involved his childhood football coach in transporting cocaine. Investigators found hundreds of grams of drugs and firearms connected to his operation, distributing at least eleven kilograms of cocaine and nearly five kilograms of crack cocaine. Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce praised the sentencing, emphasizing accountability for those distributing deadly substances.
