As the universe expands, galaxies will move farther and farther apart, making it harder for stars to form, and ultimately, they'll run out of fuel. Slowly, all the stars will burn out, and everything will become dark and cold. It's like the universe gradually losing all its energy and reaching a state of maximum entropy. This could take trillions of years, but eventually, it's the most probable way our universe could meet its end.
