Sl: Sneg je nežno pokrival strehe Ljubljane in mestne ulice so sijale v svetlobi prazničnih lučk.
En: The snow gently covered the roofs of Ljubljana and the city streets shone in the light of festive lights.
Sl: Božični sejem je bil v polnem teku.
En: The Christmas market was in full swing.
Sl: Vonj kuhanega vina se je mešal z vonjem pečenega kostanja, ljudje pa so se smukali med stojnicami, ki so ponujale vse od ročno izdelanih izdelkov do toplih puloverjev.
En: The smell of mulled wine mingled with the scent of roasted chestnuts, and people were bustling among the stalls, offering everything from handmade goods to warm sweaters.
Sl: Matej je hitel po trgu.
En: Matej hurried through the square.
Sl: Bil je utrujen in zaskrbljen.
En: He was tired and worried.
Sl: Čas mu je uhajal.

Sl: Njegova hčerka Nina je pričakovala nekaj posebnega za Božič.

Sl: Prišli sta do stojnice z lesenimi igračami.
En: They came to a stall with wooden toys.
Sl: Oči Mateja so se svetlikale.
En: Matej's eyes sparkled.
Sl: Tam je bila prekrasna lesena igralna hiška.
En: There was a beautiful wooden dollhouse.
Sl: Toda ravno takrat je k stojnici pristopila še ena družina.
En: But just then, another family approached the stall.
Sl: Matej se je zavedel, da bi lahko prišlo do neljubega nesporazuma.
En: Matej realized there could be an awkward misunderstanding.
Sl: Njegova želja je bila močna, a ni želel biti nevljuden.
