Story Transcript:

En: The air was sharp and cold, and snowflakes gently covered the paths of Plitvička jezera.

En: Ivana walked excitedly toward the familiar viewpoint, hoping that the natural beauty would soften Marko's heart.

En: Christmas was near, and she was determined to restore the family warmth they once had.

Hr: "Marko, pogledaj kako je sve predivno bijelo", rekla je Ivana, zastavši uz smrznuti slap.
En: "Marko, look how everything is beautifully white," Ivana said, stopping by the frozen waterfall.

Hr: Ledene su strukture sjajile poput milijuna sitnih svjetala.
En: The icy structures shone like millions of tiny lights.

En: But Marko was pensive, staring into the distance, uninterested.

En: "It's beautiful, Ivana, but... it's not just about tradition.

En: I want something different," Marko replied, trying to explain.

Hr: "Svake godine ista stvar.
En: "Every year it's the same thing.

Hr: Pekmez, obilazak sa susjedima, i uvijek isti razgovori."
En: Jam, visiting with neighbors, and always the same conversations."

Hr: Ivana se trudila razumjeti.
En: Ivana tried to understand.

En: "I know, but all of it makes sense when we're together.

Hr: Mislim, zar nije važno zadržati našu obiteljsku povezanost?"
En: I mean, isn't it important to maintain our family connection?"

Hr: Marko je strpljivo slušao sestru.
En: Marko patiently listened to his sister.

En: He wanted freedom, but he also didn't want to lose Ivana.

Hr: "Ti uvijek vidiš najbolje u svemu," rekao je, veselo umorne oči skriveno razočaranjem u vlastitu tvrdoglavost.
En: "You always see the best in everything," he said, his cheerfully tired eyes hiding disappointment in his own stubbornness.

Hr: "Ali možda śmo zapele u prošlosti."
En: "But maybe we're stuck in the past."

Hr: Nastavili su hodati, šutke uživajući u zimskom prizoru.
En: They continued to walk, silently enjoying the winter scene.

En: Ivana finally said, "What if we come up with something new?

En: Our own tradition, that makes us both happy?

Hr: Mogli bismo, primjerice, krenuti u planinarenje svake godine."
En: We could, for example, go hiking every year."

Hr: Marko se nasmiješio prvi put tog jutra.
En: Marko smiled for the first time that morning.

Hr: "Zvuči zanimljivo.
En: "That sounds interesting.

Hr: Ipak volim odlazak u prirodu."
En: I do love going into nature."

En: As they returned to the car, pleasantly tired and filled with new ideas, they knew
