Wisdom is the use of one’s knowledge and experience to make good judgements. Wisdom is the interpreting and understanding of knowledge that leads to greater insight. Wisdom is a pragmatic kind of process where one is constantly using metacognition. metacognition is an awareness of one’s thought process and an understanding of the patterns behind them. It is the fact of being based on sensible or wise thinking. Wisdom is associated with compromise intellectual humility, acceptance of uncertainty, and a cosmopolitanism of what is good. It contains virtues or traits of excellence that may be moral, social or intellectual. They are valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being. In ancient Rome, Virtus was a specific virtue associated with valor, masculinity, excellence, courage, character and worth. In virtue ethics a virtue is a characteristic disposition to think, feel and act well in some domain of life.

Sutton and Andrew Hargadon defined the attitude of wisdom as acting with knowledge while doubting what one knows. In Christian theology wisdom is an aspect of God or the theological concept regarding the wisdom of God. Wisdom refers to the sum total of a culture’s knowledge and application of that knowledge, acquired over time. It encompasses everything from scientific and philosophical discoveries to art and culture. When we talk about the wisdom of the ancient Greeks, we refer to everything about their culture, including their scientific and philosophical discoveries. Hikmah is the Islamic term for wisdom. It is believed that the prophets of Islam possessed great wisdom, and the term occurs several times in the Quran. Wisdom in a complex world is a situated account of wise reasoning and its development. Spiritual wisdom is the knowledge of God’s will and ways that comes from the Holy Spirit. The biblical meaning of wisdom involves discernment, insight and the ability to make sound judgements. It goes beyond mere intellectual knowledge. Encompasses a deep understanding of God’s ways and principles. Derives from a relationship with God Himself. Originates from a reverential awe and submission to the Lord.
