On Christmas Eve December 24th, 1939 millions of American families gathered close to their radios to hear Orson Welles and Lionel Barrymore breathing life into Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". The broadcast became a gentle reminder to keep Christmas in their hearts no matter how fierce the winter was outside.
