Episode 164: Do These 3 Things When A Parent Hijacks Your Emotions

On June 21, 1985, a domestic flight in Norway (Braathens SAFE Flight 139) was hijacked mid-flight. The aircraft was a Boeing 737, carrying 121 people (116 passengers and 5 crew.)

The hijacker had an air gun that looked real, and claimed that he had planted explosives on board. His demands: speak to the Prime Minister of Norway and the Minister of Justice of Norway.

Everyone remained calm and the incident ended with zero injuries and zero fatalities. According to the report that followed the investigation, “the peaceful resolution came about because of calm, competent handling by the crew and authorities, safe negotiation, and reliance on procedures, not panic.”

Obviously, what we deal with in private school leadership is nowhere near that level of danger. However, sometimes a hijacking occurs when a red-faced parent walks into your office or you receive an email with capital letters and exclamation points.

On today’s episode of The Private School Leader Podcast I am going to try to persuade you to Do These 3 Things When A Parent Hijacks Your Emotions.
