Episode Details

On Episode 18 of the PuckPedia Hockey Show we are joined by Stefen Rosner, beat writer for the New York Islanders at NHL.com, The Hockey News, and Elmonters.

We start the episode talking about Stefen’s background (2:15), growing up an Islanders fan, and how he was able to navigate a career covering the team he’s rooted for his whole life. We talk about the shift in vibes around the team with the transition from Lou Lamoriello to Mathieu Darche as General Manager (5:00).

Then we talk about the Islanders start to the season, boasting a 13-10-3 record only a couple of points outside of a playoff spot (10:00). We talk about the great start to the year from Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal, as well as the goaltending tandem of Ilya Sorokin and David Rittich.

We take a look at what the team might try to do at the Trade Deadline (14:30), if it makes sense to go all-in this year or add around the margins while not impacting the future.

Then we talk about star defenseman Matthew Schaefer and the incredible start he’s had to his career. Not just the on-ice stuff where he’s shattering records every night set by legends like Bobby Orr and Scott Stevens, but how he handles himself off the ice (20:00).

Living with former Islander Matt Martin and his wife Sydney, how he treats fans, and also the adversity he has faced with his mom passing from cancer and his billet mom also passing away (25:00).

We wrap up the episode talking about how a resource like PuckPedia is an invaluable tool for hockey media and Stefen gives a great answer of how he uses the site every single day (30:00).
