Published 4 months, 3 weeks ago
Description
Good afternoon. Here's your Mesa crime report digest for the week of November 25th through December 2nd, 2025.
On Thanksgiving night, Mesa Police responded to an assault at a local apartment complex where a 52-year-old woman admitted to slashing the throat of her boyfriend of eleven years. The incident remains under investigation by Mesa Police Department.
In a separate incident near Alma School Road and Main Street, a man fled from police and resisted arrest. Officers employed less-lethal force to take the suspect into custody. Damage to two vehicles was observed in a nearby Circle K parking lot. This case is under investigation.
Mesa Police are also investigating the death of 42-year-old Justin Merritt, who died on Tuesday following an officer-involved incident when detectives attempted to take him into custody after a traffic stop on US 60. Mesa Police Department indicated there are no outstanding suspects in connection with this death investigation.
A 16-year-old was shot near Gilbert Road and Main Street. Mesa Police are actively searching for the suspect involved in this shooting.
Mesa dentist Logan Cornwell, age 34, was taken back into custody after police discovered multiple videos of naked children at his residence. He now faces five additional counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, separate from his original charge of luring a minor. This case remains under active investigation.
On November 19th, a collision involving a Mesa police officer and another driver occurred, with officials suspecting weather-related factors contributed to the crash. That same day, one person was killed in a crash on the Loop 202 Red Mountain near Gilbert Road.
While the major incident this week involved a fatal double shooting at Tempe Marketplace on December 1st where a suspect is now in custody, listeners are reminded that Mesa Police Department continues to investigate multiple active cases throughout the community.
For information regarding any of these incidents or to report suspicious activity, listeners can contact Mesa Police Department. Anyone with information about unsolved cases is encouraged to reach out to local authorities.
