Description
Good afternoon, this is your Sacramento area crime report digest for the week. We're covering significant incidents from recent days across the greater Sacramento region.
Early Monday morning, a domestic violence suspect engaged law enforcement in a critical incident in South Sacramento near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 47th Avenue. The incident began around 12:40 a.m. when a third party reported a domestic violence situation inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies encountered the suspect, who exited the vehicle and fired at least one shot at a deputy. The deputy was not injured and did not return fire. The suspect then barricaded himself at a nearby mobile home park in the area, where he was armed and made repeated threats while ignoring instructions from crisis negotiators and other responders. After several hours, the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies did not fire any shots during the standoff, though less-lethal rounds and flash bangs were deployed moments before the suspect's death. The Sheriff's Office has not yet released the suspect's identity pending family notification.
In other recent developments, Sacramento police responded to a shooting investigation on October 27th in the 4700 block of Marysville Boulevard. Officers located evidence of gunfire, though no injuries were reported at that time. That incident remains under investigation.
Also on that date, a burglary arrest was made in the 5600 block of Stockton Boulevard. Officers detained two suspects accused of breaking into a vacant business and causing approximately one hundred thousand dollars in damage to the structure. Both suspects were arrested on related charges.
More broadly, the greater Sacramento area continues to experience significant violent crime challenges. Violent crime in nearby Stockton during 2024 reached 3,680 incidents, at a rate more than double the statewide average. The San Joaquin Valley region where Stockton is located has the highest violent crime rate in California according to recent state data.
