LA Fishing Report 12/2: King Tides, Coastal Flooding, and Wahoo Offshore

# Artificial Lure's LA Fishing Report – Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025

Hey there, anglers! Artificial Lure here with your Tuesday morning fishing rundown for Los Angeles and the surrounding waters.

Let's start with the tides, because they're absolutely crucial today. We're looking at a high tide at 6:22 AM hitting 6.33 feet here in Long Beach, with a low tide coming in around 1:30 PM at minus 0.71 feet. That's some serious tidal movement, folks. We're right in the middle of the King Tides period—these are among the highest tides of the year, caused by the alignment of the sun, moon, and earth's gravitational pull. If you're heading out early, that morning high will push some serious baitfish into the shallows.

Sunrise is around 6:42 AM and sunset hits at 4:46 PM, so you've got a tight window if you're planning an early morning session.

Now, here's the important part—there's a coastal flood advisory in effect through early next week for the Bay Area and low-lying coastal zones. Minor flooding of lots, parks, and roads is expected. Also, a beach hazards statement is active through Saturday morning, warning of dangerous rip currents and elevated surf. We're talking increased risk of ocean drowning out there, so be smart about your positioning.

For fish activity, the news isn't great. California's commercial salmon season just got shut down for an unprecedented third consecutive year due to the continued collapse of Chinook salmon. That said, recreational salmon fishing is finally opening with brief windows this spring, including a weekend in June with a 7,000-fish quota. But for right now in December, focus your efforts on other species.

Wahoo are biting in Southern California waters—we're seeing solid reports from the 10-day boats heading offshore. If you can get out to deeper water, that's your ticket. For inshore work, stick with your standard California offshore arsenal: live mackerel, live sardines, and if the water's clear, metal slugs and live bait rigs. Soft plastics work well when the bite gets finicky.

Hot spots to check out? Head down to Long Beach Inner Harbor or Manhattan Beach if you want to work the shallows during this tidal movement. For something more ambitious, get out to Santa Margarita Lake or hook up with one of the party boats heading to San Nicholas Island—the wahoo action has been solid out there.

One more thing—watch those rip currents. They're running strong right now, especially on the Malibu Coast and LA County beaches.
