Miss Rwanda Divine Muheto has owned up to drink-driving and causing an accident that damaged public infrastructure as prosecution asked she be jailed for 20 months. The sentence would include six months for drink-driving, two months for driving without a permit, and one year for fleeing after causing an accident. The defence team for the 20-year-old, however, asked for leniency, citing her remorse and that she was an "important person" against whom only a fine would suffice.

• After divorcing in Turkey, a man was ordered to pay  "cat support" to cover the care of the felines in his ex-wife's custody. Payments of $235 every three months will continue for up to 10 years or until the cats pass away. The ruling highlights Turkey's recognition of pets as living beings with legal protections.
• Lazy German nurse gets life in jail after murdering 10 to reduce workload. A palliative care nurse in Germany has been sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of the murder of 10 patients and the attempted murder of 27 others. Prosecutors alleged that the man, who has not been publicly named, injected his mostly elderly patients with painkillers or sedatives in an effort to ease his workload during shifts overnight.
