Fire alarm never went off during Hong Kong highrise fire, says resident

Description
Residents of the high-rise complex in Hong Kong where a devastating fire killed at least 128 people have confirmed that fire alarms never went off, forcing them to evacuate without an automated warning. Authorities have since confirmed that the alarm systems in all eight buildings of the complex were malfunctioning.  Multiple residents reported hearing no alarms, relying instead on the smell of smoke, the sound of burning materials, or phone calls from family and friends to alert them to the danger. One resident, Adler Suen, told a news outlet it was the smoke, not an alarm, that prompted her to check her door and flee.
