Sl: Megle se dvigajo nad jezero Bled.
En: The mist rises over Lake Bled.
Sl: Listje, obarvano v zlate in rjave odtenke, plava po mirni vodi.
En: Leaves, colored in golden and brown hues, float on the calm water.
Sl: Na otočku se kot stražar dviguje cerkev, obdana z zaveso megle.
En: On the island, like a sentinel, the church rises, shrouded in a veil of mist.
Sl: Na obali v daljavi se svetijo vrhovi Julijskih Alp, že rahlo pokriti s snežno odejo.
En: In the distance on the shore, the peaks of the Julian Alps glisten, already slightly covered with a snowy blanket.
Sl: Matej stoji ob obali, še vedno v mislih.
En: Matej stands by the shore, lost in thought.
Sl: Že odmalena sta se z Alenko srečevala tukaj, na ta dan.
En: Since childhood, he and Alenka have met here on this day.
Sl: Ob svetem Andreju izmenjata seznam želja in sanj za prihajajoče leto.
En: On St. Andrew's day, they exchange lists of wishes and dreams for the coming year.
Sl: Obljuba, sklenjena pred leti, sta najlepša vez in spomin na otroštvo.
En: A promise made years ago is the most beautiful bond and memory of childhood.
Sl: Danes pa je nekaj drugače.
En: But today is different.
Sl: Mostiček, ki vodi na njuno skrivališče, je včeraj nenadoma popustil.
En: The small bridge leading to their hideout suddenly gave way yesterday.
Sl: Poleg tega v zraku visi nevihta, nevihte se zbirajo nad jezerom.
En: Moreover, a storm hangs in the air, storms gathering over the lake.
Sl: Matej čuti veter, ki ga trese do kosti.
En: Matej feels the wind shaking him to the bone.
Sl: "Moram do nje," si misli.
En: "I must reach her," he thinks to himself.
Sl: Matej ve, da ni lahko prečkati jezera po drugi poti, a obljuba je obljuba.
En: Matej knows it is not easy to cross the lake by another path, but a promise is a promise.

En: He has always kept his word.
Sl: Matej začne hoditi po blatnem robu jezera.
En: Matej starts walking along the muddy edge of the lake.

En: With caution, he steps forward.
Sl: Kamen za kamnom.
En: Stone by stone.
Sl: Vode ga škropijo, a ne ustavijo.
En: The water splashes him, but it doesn't stop him.

En: The force of his determination carries him onward.
Sl: Ko končno stopi na zadnji kamen, se zravna in pogleda proti cerkvi.
En: When he finally steps onto the last stone, he straightens and looks toward the church.
