Victory Over Sin: What Crossing the Jordan Really Teaches Us
Description
Getting victory over sin isn't just about being forgiven for the past — Tim Matsis shows from the story of Israel at the Jordan River that it takes ongoing faith to actually reach the promised land. He starts with Israel's failure at Kadesh Barnea, where 10 of 12 spies talked the nation out of entering Canaan, and traces the 40 years of wandering that followed simply because, as Hebrews puts it, "they could not enter in because of unbelief."
Tim Matsis draws a direct line from the Red Sea (a picture of baptism) to the Jordan River (a picture of glorification), arguing that the same faith that trusts Christ for forgiveness of past sins must also be trusted for victory over sin and temptation today — what the Bible calls sanctification. Using the story of Joshua and Caleb, the only two who reached Canaan, this message challenges listeners to keep believing God for real, ongoing change rather than settling for wandering in the wilderness.
