कस्याञ्चित् कक्ष्यायां कश्चन अध्यापकः छात्रान् अपृच्छत् 'वृक्षस्य एकैकः भागः अपि भवति महते प्रयोजनाय । भवत्सु कः कीदृशः वृक्षभागः भवितुम् इच्छति ?’ इति । तदा एकैकः छात्रः‌ अपि तस्य इच्छानुगुणं कीदृशः भागः भवितुम् इच्छति इति । तस्य भागस्य प्रयोजनं किम् इत्यपि वदति । कश्चन पर्णं, कश्चन पुष्पं, कश्चन फलं, कश्चन शाखा भवितुम् इच्छामि इति वदति । कक्ष्यायां कश्चन अन्धः छात्रः वृक्षस्य मूलं भवितुम् इच्छामि इति वदति । मूलं भूमिं विदार्य प्रसरति, वृक्षधारणं करोति च । तत् सर्वान् विघ्नान् सम्मुखीकृत्य जीवत् वृक्षस्य दृढः आधारः भवति इति ।

In a certain classroom, a teacher once asked the students, “Every part of a tree serves a great purpose. Which part of the tree would you like to be?” Each student responded according to their wish—one wanted to be a leaf, another a flower, another a fruit, and yet another a branch. They also explained the usefulness of the part they chose. Among them, a blind student said he wished to be the root of the tree. He explained that the root penetrates the earth, supports the tree, and faces all obstacles underground to provide a strong foundation for the tree’s life. His thoughtful answer moved everyone, showing that true strength often lies unseen, beneath the surface.
