Puritan New England of the 1600s was a land under attack. Ministers attributed the outbreak of witchcraft that was occurring as part of the Devil’s larger plan to destroy the region. The war was being waged against the settlements by what they called “horrid sorcerers and hellish conjurers who conserved with demons.” 

It was a time of mystery and madness, demonic possessions, curses, spells, and a population that was being influenced by the “Spirits of the Invisible World.”
