Carl Schmitt fue un jurista, filósofo y teórico político alemán del siglo XX, quizás el más importante y que más trascendencia ha tenido hasta la actualidad. Católico, criticó la modernidad realmente existente (capitalista y protestante). Estudioso de la Escuela de Salamanca y del catolicismo español defendió una modernidad alternativa católica, no capitalista. Su acercamiento al Partido Nazi en la dictadura de Hitler sembraron una gran polémica en su biografía.
