UK FGM survivors forced to fund own treatment after being told to wait for 'more research’

Published 4 months ago
Description
Female genital mutilation (FGM) survivors in the UK are being told they must wait for more research into the effectiveness of reconstructive surgery, forcing many to pay for treatment abroad. While the surgery is freely available on public health services in some European countries, like Switzerland, it is not currently offered through the UK's National Health Service (NHS).
