More than a thousand flights were canceled as Federal Aviation Administration flight reductions take effect at major airports across the nation on Day 38 of the government shutdown. Senate Republicans are teeing up a vote on a package of bills to end the shutdown, while Democrats maintain their demands.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Friday that it’s working to fully fund food stamp benefits for November in compliance with a federal court order. A federal judge on Thursday directed the agency to provide full benefits—a decision the Trump administration quickly appealed.

President Donald Trump says there’s a “very good chance” he’ll meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest. This comes as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán hails a “golden age” of U.S.–Hungary relations while seeking exemptions from U.S. sanctions on Russian oil.
